Der Titel Alone in the Dark V wurde zweimal vergeben - beide Versionen wurden gecancelt und nie offiziell angekündigt.

Ein Jahr nach Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (Darkworks) startete Infogrames Lyon intern mit einem echten fünften Teil als Major-Projekt. Zur Zeit hatte Infogrames massive Finanzprobleme - 2002 allein 67 Millionen Dollar Verlust:

„In early 00s Infogrames had already a few economic problems: in 2002 they had a loss of $67 million and things would only get worse.“

Obwohl das Spiel nie offiziell angekündigt wurde, wurde es früh gecancelt. Mögliche Gründe laut Unseen64:

„Possible because of quality issues or because the series and the classic survival horror genre were not as popular as before among gamers. The project could have been seen as a risk to complete in such an unstable market.“

2003 benannte sich Infogrames in Atari um und stellte viele Projekte ein. Nur wenige Bilder dieser Version sind erhalten.

Nach dem Lyon-House-Cancel ging der Auftrag 2003 an Computer Artworks, bekannt für Das Ding aus einer anderen Welt I (2002).

„This new chapter in the Alone In The Dark series was in development in 2003 at Computer Artworks Studios, but it vanished when the studio closed down the same year. Probably this project was only in early stages before the cancellation.“

Das Studio ging 2003 in Insolvenz (receivership) während man parallel an Das Ding aus einer anderen Welt II und einer A Sound of Thunder Filmversoftung arbeitete. Alle Projekte wurden eingestellt. Die Abductions-Version war also nur in sehr früher Phase.

Beide Projekte liefen innerhalb von 12 Monaten unter dem internen Titel Alone in the Dark V. Fans nennen sie deshalb:

• AITD 5 - Lyon House Version = das 2002er interne Projekt
• AITD 5 - The Abductions / Computer Artworks Version = das 2003er Projekt nach Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

Keines kam über Prototyp/Bilder hinaus. Erst 2008 kam dann das Eden-Games-Reboot das ebenfalls einfach nur Alone in the Dark V hieß.
